About
A Birmingham practice for behavioural segmentation
Utility Cypress Field Ltd helps application teams across the United Kingdom turn how people actually use software into segments that product decisions can rely on.
Official name and history
The official registered business name is Utility Cypress Field Ltd. The practice was established in 2016 in Birmingham, West Midlands, after years of freelance work helping product managers make sense of retention charts that never quite matched the personas taped to the wall.
Early clients were subscription apps and marketplaces that needed clearer cohort language before rewriting onboarding. Over time the work specialised: behavioural segmentation for apps became the centre of the practice rather than a side topic inside broader analytics consulting.
Today we still operate from 241 Gristhorpe Road, meeting clients in person across the Midlands and London, and working remotely with teams elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
Mission
Our mission is to give product, growth, and research leads a shared, observable language for the groups inside their applications — so roadmaps and messages stop arguing about fictional averages.
How we work with clients
We favour short, intense engagements with written artefacts over open-ended retainers that never produce a brief. Workshops stay small. Assessments end with definitions you can hand to engineers and marketers without translating our jargon.
We will say early when your event volume is too thin for a full assessment, or when the real need is taxonomy repair before segmentation. That candour is part of how we keep trust in a field crowded with vague promises.
Values that show up in the work
- Observable over ornamental — if two analysts cannot apply a definition to the same export, it is not ready.
- Decision-led scope — every engagement starts from the product choice hanging in the balance.
- Respect for your stack — we interpret what you already collect; we do not sell you a replacement warehouse.
